OXI Day (Η επέτειος του ΟΧΙ) is a cherished national holiday celebrated on the 28th of October every year in Greece, Cyprus and by Greek communities around the world.
This historical day commemorates the event in 1940 when Greece’s Prime Minister, Ioannis Metaxas, courageously rejected Benito Mussolini’s demand to allow Italian troops to enter Greek territory.
GOCSA will honour OXI Day with a doxology during the church service, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony and readings of poems by the students of its afternoon Greek language schools.
