Philoptochos is the philanthropic heart of the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia’s Churches.

Its mission is to help the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widowed, those with disabilities, and the victims of natural disasters.

Philoptochos’ focus includes a variety of matters such as women’s health, substance abuse, aging, domestic violence and homelessness amongst other issues.

Each of our churches has a Philoptohos or ‘Ladies Auxiliary’ a philanthropic group of volunteers, primarily dedicated to supporting the needs of the Church and other charities. We are always looking for new volunteers* to help.  (*subject to clearance.)

The Philoptohos raises funds through various activities such as Sunday luncheons, afternoon teas, souvlaki and cake stalls, Christmas Raffle and various other functions. The Philoptohos also organises and caters for the refreshments that is offered after every Sunday Liturgy in our hall, and helps the Community at other times as well, depending on the needs.
